Hello!

I’m Tayler, the dyer, maker, and creative mind behind Fiber for the People®, a one-woman small-batch yarn dye studio. I create thoughtfully crafted, hand-dyed yarn for knitters, makers, and fiber enthusiasts who care about quality, intention, and the story behind what’s in their hands.

About FFTP

Fiber for the People begins with a simple idea: beautiful yarn, thoughtfully sourced, dyed in small batches, and offered with a healthy appreciation for color.

At the heart of the shop is the Born Shorn Dyed yarn base, a sport/light DK-weight, 2-ply yarn made from 100% Nevada-born and shorn Merino Rambouillet wool. It's my flagship yarn and the base most closely tied to the place I call home.

The wool comes from the Dufurrena Sheep Company, a family-run ranch in Northern Nevada. It is milled by Mountain Meadow Wool in Buffalo, Wyoming, and made available through my partnership with Lovely Valley Wool. Being able to work with a yarn that begins so close to home is something I don't take for granted, and it remains one of the most meaningful parts of this business for me.

While Born Shorn Dyed is the cornerstone of the shop, it isn't the only yarn you'll find here. Throughout the year I also bring in a rotating selection of carefully chosen yarn bases, most of them non-superwash, though an occasional superwash base makes an appearance as well. Each one is selected because I think it brings something special to the making experience.

If you'd like to learn more about the individual yarn bases available in the shop, you'll find additional information on their respective product pages.

Why Small Batch?

Every skein is dyed by hand in small batches in my home studio.

Some colorways begin with a photograph, some with a place, some with a vintage object I've become mildly obsessed with, and some simply start as a color combination I can't stop thinking about. However they begin, I try to leave room for curiosity and experimentation throughout the process.

Working this way means the shop changes often. Colorways come and go, collections evolve, and not every color is guaranteed to return. That's part of what keeps the work interesting for me, and hopefully for you as well.

Beyond the Dye Pots

Fiber for the People is just one part of my creative life.

I also host the Wool Needles Hands channel on YouTube, where I talk about knitting, fiber arts, creativity, material culture, and the many rabbit holes that seem to accompany a life spent making things.

If you enjoy seeing what happens behind the scenes, you'll find even more on Patreon, where I share dye days, collection development, studio projects, and the occasional glimpse into the reality of running a very small creative business.

Whether you've purchased a skein, watched a podcast episode, joined me on Patreon, or simply spent a little time browsing the shop, thank you for being here.

Fiber for the People has always been built one small batch at a time, and I'm grateful that so many of you have chosen to make it part of your own creative lives.
