This yarn is made from the fleece of the Dufurrena Merino/Rambouillet sheep that live in the mountains and foothills of Northern Nevada. The Dufurrena Sheep Company carry on the Basque tradition of sheep ranching in Nevada and provide superior quality Merino Rambouillet fleece. Lovely Valley Wool is owned and operated by Magen Dufurrena and offers un-dyed yarn from the Dufurrena Sheep Company and beautiful hand-woven camp blankets. You can find Lovely Valley Wool here. FFTP is working in collaboration with Magen of Lovely Valley Wool to source yarn from the Dufurrena Sheep Company (which is milled by Mountain Meadow Wool, a small, family-owned mill in Buffalo, Wyoming) in order to provide a regionally local (Nevada) hand-dyed yarn.

Notes:

After the dyeing process, all skeins are rinsed completely and left to soak in tepid water with lanolin-enriched Eucalan wool wash. They are then spun in an industrial spin dryer to release any excess water before being hung out to finish air-drying in the Fiber for the People® dye studio.

Hand-dyed yarn tends to vary slightly both between and within dye lots due to the nature of the dyeing process. I strongly encourage using the photos available in this listing as a reference for how the colorway will appear on each base offered. As is the case with hand-dyed yarn, slight variations in colorway between skeins of the same base is normal and to be expected (any skeins within a given base that deviate drastically from my standard for the colorway on that base will be listed separately as a Misfit. Colorways will vary much more drastically across bases due to the difference in plies, fiber content, and whether or not the yarn is Superwash-treated.

Please be sure to hand-wash all of your knits in cool water with a gentle wash.

*Due to the nature of untreated wool yarn, non-Superwash yarn bases will show the dye-job less intensely. Speckles will be more like watercolor details and variegated colorways will be more subtle and blended.
